I cheer when people who harass and abuse others in public get this treatment, but here is the thing. You can be on the receiving end because you looked at a police officer "incorrectly". Doesn't matter if you are dirt poor or middle class, you should have your rights as a human. SC needs to do something about this, this isn't that rare, it's more common than you might think.

Not sure what they did to deserve this, but i think this is disproportionate to their alleged crime. There's a law against assault of a public servant and I'm sure they'll face the consequences after having found guilty in a court of law. But the police taking matters into their own hands and doing this is completely unethical, not to mention illegal.  I hope they get suspended and jailed for this. This is inhumane.

Nayeem or Mohammed Nayeemuddin was an extortionist named in over 100 cases, the police say, including the murder of a senior police officer in 1993. He allegedly terrorized politicians, businessmen and realtors for years with his extortion demands.



He allegedly also gave information to the police on Sohrabuddin Sheikh, the petty thief whose encounter killing by the Gujarat police in 2005 became hugely controversial and led to a tangle of cases for everyone involved.



In recent days, there had been several complaints about threats and demands made by Nayeem. The calls were traced to a residential neighbourhood called Millennium Township in Shadnagar town.



Nayeem was allegedly hiding in a car. On spotting the police, the driver of his car opened fire. When the police fired back, Naeem was killed. Elite anti-Maoist Greyhound commandos were also involved in the operation.
